I've always assumed that it's the fizzing that helps to lift dirt when bicarb is mixed applied with vinegar.
I know bicarb is recommended on it's own or in with detergent as a light abrasive.

@suearcher@toot.wales @pthane@toot.wales Yeah, the fizzing will help. If the bicarb isn't totally dissolved, it can be a little bit of an abrasive as well. But you're right - the acidic/basic nature of the solution will cancel and end up as water.

@suearcher@toot.wales I suspect the fizzing is mostly for effect, it makes this home made mixture look like a proper sciencey product. To lift dirt the mix would have to get under it before it started to fizz. Seems unlikely unless the dirt is very loose in which case just wipe it off. I agree bicarb is mildly abrasive, so just mix it with a little water.
