@GuitarSith@fosstodon.org @ambergrey@mastodon.social Oh, there's no shame in using a pick to play bass. Anyone fighting that battle can be safely ignored. Serve the music, as you know, and you're fine. Also you can't compare playing finger style on guitar and bass. What Beck and Holdsworth dare oing with fingers on guitars has no crossover.

@Rob@musicians.today @ambergrey@mastodon.social Very true. As much as I love Page and Beck I think Holdsworth was the best guitarist I have ever heard, hands down. First picked him up through his band UK, and it just blows my mind the contortions he goes through with his fretting hand.

@Rob@musicians.today @GuitarSith@fosstodon.org @ambergrey@mastodon.social I lean towards fingers on either guitar or bass—one less thing to lose/misplace/complain about, right?—but one uses whatever tools and techniques that serve the material. Full stop. And sometimes you mix things up! Recorded a thing a while ago using a thumbpick on fretless bass. Had a pick when I needed it and fingers when I needed them!
