I lean towards fingers on either guitar or bass—one less thing to lose/misplace/complain about, right?—but one uses whatever tools and techniques that serve the material. Full stop.
And sometimes you mix things up! Recorded a thing a while ago using a thumbpick on fretless bass. Had a pick when I needed it and fingers when I needed them!

@geoffduncan@mindly.social @Rob@musicians.today @GuitarSith@fosstodon.org @ambergrey@mastodon.social I'm a bass picker. I like using my fingers, and can get more gradations of tone that way, but my longer (acoustic) guitar picking fingernails get in the way.
