@mtechman@mastodon.ie Somehow, I'd never heard of most of those! Which caused me to end up on my local library's website and discover that they have a whole bunch of other stuff I was unaware of. Thanks for the nudge!

@mtechman@mastodon.ie Instead of ππ«π’π¦π Video, try πππ§π¨π©π² - free with your library card. https://www.kanopy.com/en/signup

@mtechman@mastodon.ie The only thing - the _only_ thing I don't like about these services is the data collected by the companies that provide the services, unlike libraries which do not retain patron's borrowing records after the items are returned.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie Ooo, I made a video adjacent to this topic two weeks ago. Also try Kanopy.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie the movies & TV shows on Hoopla are not really the same as those on Netflix HOWEVER the audiobook services via the public library are SO much better than audible -- my local library has audiobooks through Hoopla, Libby, and Cloud Library, between the 3 of them you can find pretty much anything

@mtechman@mastodon.ie I did try #Libby for a while, but be warn if you cancel your membership YOU LOSE ALL THE AUDIBLE BOOKS YOU HAVE BOUGHT THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie I love my library and I love Libby. I wish we had the other things listed. Those sound awesome.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie so glad to see more people sharing this stuff, I just signed up for my local library and itβs crazy how much free stuff they offer simply for having a library card!

This is so cool! I already use libby and recommend it as often as is relevant. Iβm only now learning about the others, but ngl I canβt read the word hoopla without the SpongeBob scene forcing its way in to my brain.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie perhaps "Dupes" is the wrong word here. To dupe is to deceive. Good idea though

@mtechman@mastodon.ie I agree, but also note that Libby (owned by for-profit OverDrive) charges per-book licensing fees to your library, and those fees are more expensive than buying physical books. Just saying for your awareness.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie love this marketing idea.

@mtechman@mastodon.ie I like the idea of Libby but when I want a book I get put on a waiting list telling me the book will be available in two months.
