Reminder that you shouldn&#39;t use the term &quot;NSFW&quot; (not safe for work). Gory picture of a gunshot wound: You shouldn&#39;t look at it at work if you&#39;re a kindergarten teacher. If you&#39;re a surgeon, it might even be part of the job. What&#39;s okay in a workplace setting varies wildly across industries and cultures. Also, &quot;NSFW&quot; is often used for nudity and sexual content. But this use implies that sex work cannot be work. Is that what you wanna imply? Because I sure don&#39;t. Don&#39;t use &quot;NSFW&quot;. Be specific.

Especially if you're using it as a content warning here or elsewhere. A picture with content note "NSFW" can mean anything. Is it a clothed pin-up photo? An interesting piece of vomit you saw on your commute? A dead animal? A dead human? Two people having sex? Five of them? A close-up photo of a vulva? Of a scrotum and lubed-up butthole? Someone taking a nude selfie on their balcony while covered in their own shit? You might be okay with seeing some of these, but not others. Be specific.

@scy@chaos.social Hmm, this is an interesting one. For a platform like Fedi where you can write your own content warnings, yeah, don't just say NSFW, be specific. For platforms without that feature, I feel like it's not that bad of a label for, generally, things that can be rather intense and that shouldn't just be shown to everyone in public. I basically consider NSFW to mean not safe for (office) work, for the reasons mentioned, but yeah, as a catch-all I think something like not safe for public viewing NSFPV would be a little more accurate
