The other day one of our internal bots told me one of my company passwords was about to expire. Since this thing was converted to an AI chatbot, it provided me a button that said "change now". The thing spent a few tokens just to give me URL where I could rotate it. For a company of around 600-750 people. And a password rotation policy of 45 days. All those tokens spent for a URL that could have been in the first message. #AIBrainRot

I haven't heard of urban zoning as a car brain tool. Then I see this map: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=17/35.360378/-120.843204 All houses, not a single shop. Is not even the alveolic cul-de-sacs, just a grid full of houses and no shops. My childhood neighborhood was like that grid. But we had a haberdasher 40m from home (shop in the garage), 2 convenience stores in the corner (both using the main room), a carpentry and a bakery (the owners of the latter lived in on a house build as...

One afternoon my kids silently went into de balcony, took the earth from 2 10cm round pots and spread them in many 5x5 cm small square pots. Those have been resting in the scorching sun without watering. Two weeks ago we brought another flowery wild plant from the street[1]. to put it in a pot, I used the very dry earth from those pots, with not much hope, since I thought any living thing would be dead by now. Since the earth was thoroughly crumbly dry, [...] 1/

Damn, https://infosec.exchange/@0xabad1dea/109859101754388631 looks like a criollo (bread prepared with animal, usually cow, fat), and now I'm hungry. Worst part, they don't make those here, I'm 11Mm away from where I know they make them, and I'm bad at cooking...

Seth from Bern Peak cracked an abandonware #ebike with lots of ebike, electric and a bit of electronic engineering experience and an LLM. Let's put aside the LLM. A few months ago I saw a broken abandoned e-scooter. My first reaction was to pick it up, but my second was "I don't have space to work on this". Watching Seth's video https://youtu.be/J_Lx2x_3ZQg I now regret that decision. I wonder if there's any ebike/e-scooter #hacking community here in the Fedi that I c...

I have #Signal on the phone and on Debian. I contacted a friend on the phone, because I could find them there and not the app, thanks to Signal rating the people on my phone's contact list. Fine. But not the app does not have our conversation listed.Maybe it's a matrix-esque situation where it's waiting for some conversation from my friend's side (they hadn't answered yet), but it's at least baffling. It does receive updates from other conversations, tho.

I read https://aus.social/@Unixbigot/116694014042911771 and wanted to make a joke about V-K'ing billionaires, so I read Blade Runner's WP page and found this pearl: "In real life, a magazine created an approximation of the [Voight-Kampff] test using questions and used it in jest on the candidates in the 2003 election for Mayor of San Francisco, concluding that at least half of them, including future Governor Gavin Newsom, would be classified as replicants" Here: https://web.a...

Edit: no more boosting, answer in toot below. I have a #Brother DCP-L2530DW laser #printer that does not connect to my 5GHz network. Is it possible that it only supports 2.4GHz? The manual does not mention technologies, so I'm guessing it doesn't because at the build time there were no alternatives... #HomeLab Boosts welcome, I'm not sure the hashtags will be enough.

This is not new, just writing and pinning it here so I can point people to this. #OpenStreetMap's site has one big problem: people think it's an alternative to GMaps, while it's in fact a technology demonstrator. * The map itself does not show all types of features, and adding new features is a nontrivial process. * The search widget talks to a georeferencer which can find some type of features by names and resolve addresses, but can't find generics like &#...

Phil Hands, a Debian developer, just posted this message in his blog: On March 6th, we left my daughter's laptop on a train: ICE 1201 (Hamburg-Harburg to Bludenz). The laptop is a Lenovo X230. The most obvious distinguishing feature is a pink Mathilda Hands sticker in the middle of the lid. The keyboard layout is British (with a £ above the 3). It was left in coach 24 of ICE 1201, next to seats 51-54, in the luggage gap between the seats, on the floor. More info: http://wiki.hands.c...
