@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space I think the "abusers" of quote-posts will just screenshot-and-attach. So, I think not implementing the feature is actually punishing the people that will user it well. But, I'm also not a Mastodon developer, and I'm a big fan of worker decision and autonomy. So, I'll leave it up to them.

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space I still don’t really see a consistent rule to separate quote-posts from rich previews of any other kind of content, and of course posts get screenshotted plenty already… But maybe this is another “don’t make it too easy” thing.

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space the thing I dislike about the *current* quote post implementation (that is: a URL) is that it doesn’t notify the person that they are now on the receiving end of more attention. Invisible quote posts are imo worse than quote posts, and that’s what you have now.

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space I’ve only seen a few things saying Mastodon is adding the feature, and the thing I’m wondering about is how are the new quote-posts different from the pseudo-quote-posts we have now? I don’t want to encourage pile-ons, but I (pseudo-)quote post quite a bit to share my thoughts inspired by some other post and keep the context without either hijacking their thread or failing to share my thoughts with my followers; is there a better way to do that?

@ireneista@adhd.irenes.space I have mixed feelings but part of my mixed feelings is that clients are implementing it on their own, in that I think an increasing number of them will inline a Fediverse link if the author put it in a toot. If something q-p like is going to happen anyway, maybe doing it as an official feature will make it easier for people to turn off for their posts or otherwise limit it. (People can still do the manual one but I feel that affordances matter & create social pressure.)
