Day 664 of posting a Daily Screenshot from the games I've been playing

2026-05-12 08:30 UTC

Today’s game is Twilight Princess. Specifically the new Dusk port that came out. I’ve had a rocky relationship with Twilight Princess in the past. I’m not a fan of how some of the human characters look (and by that I mean the “Tim Burton-esque” look I hear people praise it for) and I’m also not a fan of how long it takes to get started. These are not to say I think it’s a bad game. Far from it. But from a personal perspective I am not a fan. What do I like though? I like the way the world looks. Especially the twilight sections. They have this nice copper ish and warm lighting that’s gorgeous on the models. And the water? God it looks amazing. It’s like a perfect sequel to what I loved about Ocarina of Times water. The sound, color, and texture are all amazing. I think I could be water boarded with this water and be happy about it. While we’re on the subject of this water, I want to talk more about its location (Hyrule Field). This one I feel like is a complaint. But there’s some places in this game that feel almost empty in a way? Like just vast spaces with a little bit too much space. Sometimes I feel like an ant. Maybe I’m used to Ocarina of Time’s Hyrule Field, but this feels bleak and maze like by comparison. I do like how the Mail Man hums the item get Jingle though. That got a laugh out of me. Ultimately I have some things I like about this game, others not so much. I’m determined to see it through this time though compared to all my other runs. So we’ll see if I follow through.

  • This was my first Zelda game. I didn't read any reviews, I just played it. Afterwards I learned that not everybody loves it, but I do. Being the first, I guess it will always be the best Zelda game to me. I... don't like BotW. I spent a few dozen hours in it over the past few years and have not finished it. I prefer the traditional structure of Zelda games.

The wind up to get started kills me each time. I’m very much not a fan of this art style. In fact, I kind of hate it. The combat also feels a bit off to me as well, not really sure what it is about it. I’m guessing it is due to being optimized for Wiimotes or something.

TP is by far my favorite LoZ (and I started with the first one on the NES). If you ever replay it, Dusk is absolutely amazing. Bloom control, 16:9 support, graphics upscaling that looks amazing and runs silky smooth. They really did a great job with it.

Played this all the way through back when it released, as a teenager. So formative. It was my first Zelda game.

If you don't like overly long and slow starts, beware Final Fantasy X e.e" On these graphics, I'd been playing some GameCube games recently, and it feels like a trend for this console, to go overboard with lighting, excessive amount of details in the scenary, pastel colors when possible, and an almost otherworldly overall feel. Even Eternal Arcadia Legends, which is a remaster, not even an original GC IP, gets a bit of this treatment. "<.<

Im doing the same on my steam deck. I wish there was a way to make the HUD/UI elements smaller. They do take a lot of real estate on the screen. And Dusk's bloom is better than the original, but still very powerful! Overall I am still enjoying! Play on!

I always forget how insane the bloom/blur is in this game. What were they thinking?

I think I have a copy of Doom 2 for the switch I’m considering, but also I have a personal stigma whenever I do Switch games. Something about it makes me feel dirty lmao

I haven’t gotten that far just yet. How bad is it compared to OoT’s? The world building is absolutely something I understand. It’s like finding that one game that clicks and really makes you want to construct your own. OoT was that for me.

I’ll try to go into it with an open mind then! I really enjoyed Ocarina of Time’s water dungeon (as long as I’m playing SoH or 3D with the equipable iron boots). So I’m actually a little hopeful about this one too

  • You talk about things you disliked yet you didn't mention the water temple???? And yeah I really loved playing this when it came out on the original Wii. Played it to death. Loved the story and the designs, and it really sparked an appreciation for world building in me. I wouldn't mind playing it again some day.
