@trafotin@vt.social I still don't understand why distros don't add that path to the PATH by default

@trafotin@vt.social I'm just kinda pissed that flathub is catering to GUI applications only, it would be awesome if we could also use it to distribute command-line based applications. I've got a few things with complex environments as prerequisites that it would be ideal for, but alas,

@trafotin@vt.social is *that* seriously what people are naming as the reason why they don't ever want to use Flatpak? @TheEvilSkeleton@social.treehouse.systems

@trafotin@vt.social @TheEvilSkeleton@social.treehouse.systems Why the hell aren't they just using a launcher like any sane person?

@trafotin@vt.social @TheEvilSkeleton@social.treehouse.systems and just alias the things in the path so that “application” runs “com.example.Application” for anything you need to run from the cli. If you live in the terminal chances are you’ve accumulated plenty of aliases already (I’ve probably forgotten about half of mine). You can even easily set it so that the aliases are not set up if the app is installed outside flatpak, I did 🤷♂️.

@trafotin@vt.social @TheEvilSkeleton@social.treehouse.systems i know about this, and it’s handy, but i think i’d also like to have the ability for the flatpak CLI to prompt me about something like: org.mozilla.Firefox provides the 'firefox' command. Do you want to set up the 'firefox' command to start org.mozilla.Firefox? [Y/n] and saying yes would ln -s /var/lib/flatpak/exports/bin/org.mozilla.Firefox /var/lib/flatpak/exports/bin/firefox

@trafotin@vt.social @TheEvilSkeleton@social.treehouse.systems I just automatically assume it's a bad faith argument bc i have a hard time believing people actually unironically want to launch flatpaks (out frankly any graphical apps) from the terminal for any reason other than maybe debugging purposes.

@trafotin@vt.social do... Do people actually state this as a reason? Unironically?
