@gruber@mastodon.social I remember thinking in 2020 that Biden should campaign on a promise of bringing back slow news days.

@GuyDudeman@beige.party 2025-02-05 01:04
@gruber@mastodon.social The news corporations didn't like it. Not one iota.

@gruber@mastodon.social if it bleeds, it leads, right? Now maximum online engagement is algorithmically generated by maximum discord, maximum us vs them polarization and down-to-the-wire, too-close-to-call nail biting contests. Everything aligns.

@gruber@mastodon.social should have been more exciting because they should have pursued swift justice for the coup plotters

@gruber@mastodon.social I relished in it every day that I realized that there was no insane news that day…

@gruber@mastodon.social I don't know about yours, but mine was full of Palestinians dying and protestors getting arrested, so "boring" is not the word I would use to describe it
-
@whybird@aus.social 2025-02-05 02:00
@gruber@mastodon.social I recall @scalzi@mastodon.social saying 4+ years ago that we really, really want “boring” in this realm.
-
@MakanaBoy@mastodon.social 2025-02-05 02:10
@gruber@mastodon.social I would give anything for a boring ass news day.

@ordrad@lor.sh 2025-02-05 02:16
@gruber@mastodon.social I went days/weeks not hearing about Biden. Those were the days.
-
@enoch_exe_inc@mastodon.social 2025-02-05 02:21
@gruber@mastodon.social No, not really. Aside from the presidency beginning on a failed “coup”, there was the pullout of Afghanistan, normalisation of mass shootings, the increasingly rogue Supreme Court making wildly incorrect decisions like banning abortion, overturning decades of precedent, and declaring the President above the law, and, of course, the Gaza Genocide.

@gruber@mastodon.social oh, I most certainly appreciated it. At least weekly. Although it wasn't quite as nice as having Obama actually being clear and passionate and confident without rambling.

@gruber@mastodon.social right, one so quiet and uneventful, that BBC ran live feeds from 2022-02-21 to 2022-03-30, starting a new one each two days or so because they kept bumping into their website feed size limitations. And BBC Russian Service still has their live feed series running.

@gruber@mastodon.social Off topic note: It's interesting to see #fediverse really coming alive on the conversation when critical reach is achieved. It's a freaking party out here. 🙂 Pretty cool. We were needing this.

@gruber@mastodon.social we had the Trussterfuck here in the UK - Liz Truss’ chaotic time as Prime Minister, shortest in our history - and I can only hope the Interesting Times for you all in the US are as brief.
-
@ErickaSimone@mastodon.social 2025-02-05 08:38
@gruber@mastodon.social Frankly, I think it bothered people to have a presidency that was boring as fk. A lot of people are addicted to the dopamine that drama and abuse releases. A lot of people actually like this drama. Thrive off it.

@gruber@mastodon.social yes, but sadly even during Biden‘s term the msm gave trump too much energy. Instead of focusing on the good being done. All for clicks.
-
@bitzero@corteximplant.net 2025-02-05 14:34
@gruber@mastodon.social Well it wasn’t that boring with a genocide where Joe was actively killing kids and, in the meanwhile, the usual climate catastrophe. And a war in the center of Europe. But it’s me, maybe: I’m too sensitive.
