@pixel@oldbytes.space not so, checks and balances. But they made a critical error in lifetime SCOTUS appointments and did not anticipate the system being gamed so hard, but then again, they always said they never wanted a party system and PARTICULARLY the only two party thunderdome. Worst form of Democracy is a highly polarized us vs. them two party system. How do you form coalitions? You don’t.

"Every Billionaire is a policy failure" said Dan Riffle. But did Mr. Riffle ever consider that policy itself, specificially the inability of policy to change in any meaningful way, and his role in that policy ... might also be a failure.. and the one we need to fix first?

Silence can mean: I agree. I strongly disagree. I am indifferent. I am out of town. I am having technical problems. I don’t know how to address this sensitive issue. I am busy with other things. I did not notice your question. I did not realize that you wanted a response.

Interesting way to describe the CEO of a company you invested in – “more of a religious leader than he is a CEO” 🙏

I love how I'm barely at Discourse any more (I am on the board, and in loose touch, but mostly I try not to bother them so they can work) and I'm being regaled constantly with all the new awesome open source software features they're building. This is the way.

I was trying to think of other tech or similar companies whose entire surface is bristling with red flags like Misanthropic, and I could only come up with two: Theranos, and Enron. My advice is DO NOT EVER TRUST Misanthropic, and as my late dad used to often say to me -- best advice he ever gave me -- take my advice and do as you please.

Aww yiss solar power! 🌞 Always dreamed of having a solar array on a home as a kid.. and I was fortunate enough to realize that dream (both home ownership, and the solar part). And solar is far far ahead of all predicted schedules on lower pricing to be available to all, worldwide. Wish I could say something similarly optimistic about home ownership here, but I can't.

How is it in the last 19 years we've had a dozen superhero franchise reboots, yet ZERO reboots of the Benny Benassi - Satisfaction music video?

Share one of the primary / favorite songs you use to get pumped up, and also list one of the primary /favorite songs you use to calm down and relax. I'll go first: basically the entire Challengers soundtrack (Reznor/Atticus) and Blackberry Molasses (Mista)

"There's no way the United States can afford Universal Healthcare, it would cost more than all the taxes we could possibly collect!" Perhaps that is because healthcare in this country -- for some reason -- routinely costs 3×-5× more than it does anywhere else!

I propose the following constitutional amendment -- people who have never worked a minimum wage job in this country for at least TWO YEARS of their life are INELIGIBLE for ANY ELECTED POSITION. 📜✒️

This is a really fascinating article, and I agree with a lot of it. I buy SO MUCH from Etsy, and it's (almost) always small American businesses all over the country. https://www.economist.com/business/2026/07/27/america-has-become-an-entrepreneurs-paradise?utm_campaign=shared_article

GiveDirectly is the execution arm of https://staygold.us and the second half of the plan documented at https://blog.codinghorror.com/launching-the-rural-guaranteed-minimum-income-initiative/ -- just noticed my "Total Donated" when I log in to my giving dashboard at GiveDirectly 🤣🤣 .. I'm pretty sure they did this as an easter egg for me

Michael: We are now working with over 80 pilots across the country, documented at guaranteedincomeworks.com. From Mount Vernon, NY to Rochester, NY, what we are seeing is true no matter where you are in this country: if you’re struggling with affordability, groceries, or just struggling to breathe, $500 or $1,000 is enough for a foundation to build upon. It’s enough money to buy some boots and bootstraps so that you can pull yourself up. I’ll end with this: I’m not saying there shouldn’t be rich...

I loves me some propaganda. I really do. Fun fact: the SAT / ACT company owned discourse.com (we already had discourse.org) and I played our cards right to obtain the .com eventually which was a minor miracle.. they had some ancient abandoned product under that name

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@codinghorror/116380144402469230 We can't just hassle people constantly until they move off {insert name of evil, you-own-nothing we-own-you-all deal-with-it-you-losers-dot-jiff platform}. We must build viable alternatives for them. That's the real work.
