The AI is also car brained, proving it is a form of US Tech colonialism. @notjustbikes already predicted that tech companies selling autonomous cars will be lobbying to make the roads 'safer' by redesigning them to suit cars and be hostile for humans. https://road.cc/news/driverless-taxis-veering-into-cycle-lanes-normal-practice-says-waymo

In the Netherlands, blocking a bike lane for passenger drop-off is a traffic violation, full stop. The "too high a bar" answer reveals exactly which users Waymo designed for. This isn't a technical limitation. It's a values choice baked in from the start.

  • Reminder: Tesla's "self-driving" cars still need human oversight in a oneway tunnel. Good luck operating autonomous cars when the chaos at an airport taxi stand already overwhelms the system… https://www.perplexity.ai/search/is-it-true-that-tesla-s-self-d-6U7DoQj5Sm6wgRM0LkeCtA

  • @Dany@hsnl.social if some clanker blocks my bike lane it’s getting damaged until removing their “technical limitations“ becomes less expensive than continuously repairing their cars. What do they think they’re doing

@Dany@hsnl.social @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com There's one reason why these proliferated in the US: corruption. Since you probably have the same problem in the UK, you have to go after these things hard.

@Dany@hsnl.social @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com Kind of justifies cyclists making it 'common practice' to spraypaint violating cars' sensors doesn't it?

  • @Dany@hsnl.social @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com For interurban mobility we can also predict that those pushing for such tech will lobby to make building intersection-free roads mandatory between all towns and cities (basically motorways everywhere even if they're oversized for local traffic needs) to make them easier to be used by so-called autonomous cars. Basically anything other than transitioning to a less extractive transportation system combining decent public transportation with bikes and other vehicles that trade speed for simplicity.

@Dany@hsnl.social @notjustbikes@social.notjustbikes.com I hope people in bikes learn how to hop the bike up on and over the driverless cars, causing damage.
