You take it from wherever you are to the toilet. Also on a less pedantic note, sometimes doctors will have you collect a home stool sample and take it to them.

I've always wondered why Americans "take" things so much. "Take a shit", "take a shower", "take a look" You "go for" or "have" those things in OG English.

I would argue that the only time you are NOT taking a poop, is when you are pooping. At any other time you are taking all of your poop with you.
