I've always wondered why Americans "take" things so much. "Take a shit", "take a shower", "take a look" You "go for" or "have" those things in OG English.

  • Take = to make something yours Have = something you already possess I'm _going to have_ a shower I'm _going to take_ a shower Both describe in some capacity making the shower yours. _Take a shit_ _Have a shit_ Here shit is actually acting as a verb like shower, not a noun _Take a look_ _Have a look_ Again both describing a action that you personally doing, just different styles of the same construction

Unrelated somewhat, but one similar swedish expression is "ta en titt" (literally "take a look", not "grab a boob"). But then the swedes also have "Slutstation" ("End station" in public traffic) and "Utfart" ("drive out").

And when ordering in restaurants “I’ll take…” which always seems a bit rude
