@k3ym0@infosec.exchange Corporate America basically only responds to crises, real or imagined. So if they want the companies that benefit from NTP to get their wallets out, they need to have a crisis. It can't just be "please let's prevent this bad thing"—if stuff like that worked, we wouldn't be staring down the barrel of global warming—it needs to be "THE INTERNET DIES TOMORROW UNLESS..." Then the gears will turn. Capitalism doesn't respond to pleas, it responds to threats.

@k3ym0@infosec.exchange @siracusa@mastodon.social done — I also signed up for ongoing support of LinuxPTP (which was on $0 for 2025) This is in case I might (or might not) ever write that book about precision timekeeping, "A Brief History of Time…Keeping" "from the minute-hand because of the railways" "to nanosecond blackholes across continents" It would leverage some incredibly good information I saw on a Web 1.0 site circa 2005, the sort of thing that is long lost, unless I get really lucky on another Wayback Machine dive. I'd have to find fresh references for the science anyway.
