@GoodAaron@mastodon.social Biologist here. FYI, "agonist" is any protein that activates a receptor, not just a neurotransmitter. I have to agree that it sounds evil, though :)

@GoodAaron@mastodon.social In cognitive linguistics, it's also used to describe force dynamic relationships in utterances expressing causality. I once wrote a term paper for which I conducted a mini-experiment exploring how people perceive events in terms of agonists (objects tending to remain at rest or in motion) and antagonists (forces acting to change that tendency).
