Again, the letters Å, Ä, Ö, Æ, Ø are not decorations to slap on your game name’s Os and As, contrary to ubiquitous belief. They have different pronunciations in Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and Danish, and I bet I’m not the only Scandinavian who is turned off by weird-sounding usage of these letters. It’s like if I, a Swede with a soft J in my language, decided to name my game Yust a Couple of Jellow Yackals for Jour Yolly Yaunt. I’ll talk about this again. #games #ttrpg #language

@anderstallvik@dice.camp When I was in my teens I got the idea to learn Russian. I got as far as learning how to pronounce Cyrillic. That was the sole foothill before I was met with large, imposing mountains teeming with intractable sheer cliffs. This did have a lasting effect, however. Every time somebody uses Cyrillic characters to try to look unique in a username, for instance, or to try to make something not-Russian look Russian, I pronounce it and wonder why it doesn't sound quite right.

@anderstallvik@dice.camp Same with Ä, Ü, and Ö in German. And they do definitely not sound hardcore, in fact they sound kinda goofy in a lot of settings. Motörhead was very weirded out when German fans tried to pronounce their name.
