When I was in my teens I got the idea to learn Russian.
I got as far as learning how to pronounce Cyrillic. That was the sole foothill before I was met with large, imposing mountains teeming with intractable sheer cliffs.
This did have a lasting effect, however. Every time somebody uses Cyrillic characters to try to look unique in a username, for instance, or to try to make something not-Russian look Russian, I pronounce it and wonder why it doesn't sound quite right.

@kilroy_was_here@dobbs.town That is first of all a very cool challenge! And I can only imagine there are a lot of strange attempts to sound Russian with no understanding of the language out there
