> Amid security concerns, MIT to spend over ***$3 million on over 500 new surveillance cameras*** across campus

Fucking horrifying. And apparently the administration at MIT is investigating HOW THEIR SHITTY DECISION WAS LEAKED.
This is the same day that they sent out layoff notices, and also have high schoolers deciding whether to go here. Great timing all around.

If the people you're "protecting" finding out about what you're doing is embarrassing or upsetting you -- YOU KNEW WHAT YOU DID WAS WRONG WHEN YOU DID IT If your motive was actually to help people you'd announce it on high and tell everyone who would listen about your great ideas. How do these people sleep at night. Maybe they don't.

@bipolaron@scholar.social This quote is everything-- “History has shown us that surveillance states exist not to protect innocent people from criminals, but to make criminals of innocent people"

@bipolaron@scholar.social If I *had* money to donate, MIT certainly wouldn't be getting any of it. Class of 2005 says FUCK THE PIGS
