@Pollinators@epicure.social The green manures are such a useful addition. Not only do they feed the soil biology when crops are scarce, the biomass from them can be chopped and dropped as mulch or provide the early greens for composting. I do love your ducks and I’m very jealous. We aren’t allowed to have any livestock but they would fit in so well with horticulture. Good luck with the composting.

    @Broadfork@mastodon.green We are fortunate to have runner ducks in the ecosystem at our home. The runner ducks are the biggest forage animal that fits in with the vegetable gardens and native plantings. They are free ranging homebodies. Their contributions are many, foraging, pest control, manure, zen. #nodig, #ducksofmastadon

    @Broadfork@mastodon.green Yes. The green manures are ready to chop and drop before other plants, except rhubarb. Yes. It’s the first big harvest available for the compost pile. The moisture content is good in the compost as we have rain barrel water and water extracts. Both comfrey and nettle. We will watch the temperature. #compost
