@dank@jorts.horse I see this happen on Star Trek TNG and it’s actually the actors going off script, the captions are the script as written.
I have some Lupin III that’s totally infuriating though, the captions are some extremely flavorless literal translation of the Japanese and then the dub is some totally unrelated rewrite with localized references

@jordan@sometimes.social i can understand a mismatch between dubs and subs. that's at least explicable - even though i still think if it's said it should be subbed. the specific instances i've encountered recently have been english native high-budget shows with hundreds of episodes made in the last 20 years. for me it's an inconvenience. every time what's said and what's subbed diverge i notice it. for folks that don't hear the dialog i feel they're being short-changed of the creators' intention.
