Windows, the hype: "Microsoft is totally obsessed with backwards compatibility, it is both their major competitive advantage and their albatross" Windows, the reality: "oh, this game is more than 5 years old? yeah, I'm gonna have to ask you to go fuck yourself"

trying to burn all my Hacker News karma with petty insults but for every "lol gfy" I post that gets 3 downvotes, there's a "here's a story from my career that illustrates exactly why gfy" that gets 50 upvotes

receiver did a pretty good brick imitation for a few minutes this morning and that's some shit I really don't need to be replacing right now because those were getting more expensive over time even before everything else started getting more expensive every once in a while I look at used ones and they're like "yeah we'll sell you one from 1992 for $200"

please, everyone, join me in refusing to scan Google's QR code reCAPTCHAs if a site you want or need to use starts using them, complain to the operators, but here's the rub: don't bother arguing with site operators about privacy etc; instead, just lie, and say you can't get them to work

decided last night I should play a Diablo with the kid so I checked out DevilutionX and that's real cool then I got Battle.net working under Wine and that was a big pain in the ass and I installed the Diablo II remake which I bought back when it came out but never played and was immediately grossed out by being upsold DLC for a game I played as a teenager then I got old school Diablo II working under Wine with D2DX and that is also pretty cool

RE: https://mastodon.social/@livelakemichigan/116539103773546840 I desperately need to know the tale of pettiness behind the caption that is always superimposed on this webcam: "Outdoor serving of bar and restaurant customers by the owner or operator of Unit 1001 [The Shoreline Restaurant] or other restaurant personnel shall not be permitted." Is this a quote from a local law? Or perhaps a court order? If you go to their website, you can see the same view, but taken from a much low...

why are the foil versions of recent legendary creatures so much cheaper than the non-foils? like the core 4 Ninja Turtles from their commander deck, or Tidus and Yuna from that deck; the regular versions are all between $3 and $5 but the foils can all be had for less than a dollar is it because one version of the card only comes in a precon while the other one only comes in a booster pack? it's still strange the price differential is so large #mtg
