@dank@jorts.horse I think, genuinely, it's just part of the art but due to the printing gave a vaguely QR look and I didn't bother to really look at it. Looking up other crucifix' pics, it seems that "thing nailed to the cross above jesus" is a thing? None of them are as rectangular as this, but I guess maybe it's just supposed to be a sign where they would have been like, "this dude got nailed for heresy" or whatever.

@aud it might be where they put the "freshest by" date sticker in the golgotha supermarket but actually i wonder if it's a space to display the accused's "crime" since it's a public execution and social control tool
