@weyoun6 @TheGreatLlama It's already been happening for years. Look at the UK, and the same process is there. Much the same as the process being used to destroy the US postal service too, while we're at it. First, change policies to reduce the funding, make sure the healthcare workers are understaffed and underpaid, reducing quality of care. Shut down small independent hospitals, especially in rural areas, and funnel resources into big corporate Walmart type hospitals. And so on. Until the quality of care is crashing and wait times go up-- then they beat the drum of privatization, and it's all downhill from there. Healthcare is being hoarded by the rich. Our life expectancy in the US is going down for a reason. COVID was left to run rampant, with no upgrades to ventilation and no masking in hospitals, for a reason. All other Western countries are being dragged along the same trajectory. Public health and preventative care get in the way of exploitation.

  • @violetmadder @weyoun6 That's the key. First they have to break it, then they make the case that it can't be fixed so it might as well go away.

@violetmadder @TheGreatLlama I think Canadians are often misjudged as "US-light" which significantly underestimates them. About 25 years ago I knew Canadians who were worried Canada would follow the US into US-style dystopianism. That didn't happen and I have not found Canadians who are worried about that anymore. I'm not saying these countries don't have their issues, especially around racism and colonialism, but most high quality of life countries have a citizenry with a developed sense of the US as cautionary tale, especially with regard to healthcare. That's why there has been so much money spent on preventing the US from getting healthcare. The fear among the aristocracy is that even the passive US will not give up healthcare once they have it.
