This IS the circle of hell we now inhabit. Keep breathing, we have to deal with this. @MissConstrue https://mefi.social/@MissConstrue/116424250363768679

@tuban_muzuru@ohai.social @michael@westergaard.social @RickiTarr@beige.party @eyrea@mstdn.ca The boys and girls in engineering right now are so busy working for the short-term profits demanded by their brutally competing authoritarian sugar daddies that they have stopped thinking ahead. An awful lot of people actually still believe that at some point someone in this giant game of planetary chicken is going to do the sensible thing and hit the brakes and act to prevent the total apocalyptic co...

Know how the VBNMW libs love to snarl about 'apathetic' non-voters? THAT SHIT IS BY DESIGN. "A democratic political system usually requires some measure of apathy and non-involvement on the part of… a marginal population…. inherently undemocratic, [it nevertheless enables] democracy to function effectively. Marginal social groups, as in the case of the blacks, are now becoming full participants. Yet the danger of overloading the political system with demands… remains...

I just went to a workshop for job seekers who need special help. The moment I asked about resumes: "Oh, ChatGPT will fix all of that for you!" They were downright gushing about it. I know in an abstract way, the average reading level is something around 5th grade, but I'm not directly exposed to it much. A few attendees were really struggling with the booklets we'd been handed. This "AI" technology was being hyped to them like a godsend. W...

I'm really starting to get extra appreciation for the voice of the computer in Star Trek. It wasn't pretending to be anyone's friend. It doesn't even try to call itself an "assistant". Just the facts-- actual facts, as from a calculator. Coolly straightforward, to the point. Pleasantly impersonal. Aloof. Not trying to manipulate anyone with mimicry of emotions it doesn't feel. None of this cloying encouragement, the pocket sycophant...

@GhostOnTheHalfShell@masto.ai Recently I was introduced to somebody from an organization that's trying to set up very simple, small, self-sufficient communities with permaculture etc. There is no website I can share with you. They are actually AFRAID to be too open with what they are doing, because they've already been getting so many DEATH THREATS. What we need is so simple, but there are people out there who'd rather see millions of people die and the world burn than lose an...

THIS IS WHAT THE HUGE DATA CENTERS ARE FOR. Said it before, gonna keep saying it: it's a weapon. All this "AI" slop, the LLMs, the "age verification" policies, the data centers-- weapons. @oaklandprivacy https://mastodon.social/@oaklandprivacy/116174501214905919

I just heard Chris Hedges mention he now, "finally", identifies as an anarchist! 😲 When did THAT happen?! Last thing I read from him on the subject had a lot of poo-pooing and complaining about black bloc etc. I'm terribly curious what changed!

Some of my favorite podcasters went to Minneapolis. The regular news is not covering any of this properly-- but these folks know what they're talking about. Both are experienced with mutual aid activities such as the hurricane relief efforts in North Carolina, or feeding and helping refugees down at the border in places like Arizona. (One also has a doctorate in history focused on the Spanish Civil War, so knows a few things about how people fight fascism.) The border work is particularly...
