How can people use #YouTube without or paying for it?

@txt_file@chaos.social I got uBlock Origin and I am still particularly pissed at Youtube today. I wanted to look up some DIY home repair stuff today, and often it's helpful to see it in action. The first two results were "sponsored shorts", as close to product ads as it gets. Then came a video titled "how to fix XYZ perfectly" and 3 minutes into the video it's clear that the fix doesn't work at all. Scrolling down further just listed completely unrelated vids. Completely useless!

On desktop Freetube On Android Pipepipe These work without an account. They skip the ads with Sponsorblock. Commenting, thumbs up will not be an option. I use these with MullvadVPN.

what’s the issue with ublock on your end? it works perfect over here on desktop and android, blocks all ads seamlessly.

Because they don’t know they have the option to block ads without having to pay, which a lot of people in most parts of the world can’t afford. More awareness of available solutions will help.

@txt_file@chaos.social some would say there are ads in your video. I would say there is a video in your ads. And not just Youtube, not using ad blockers often immediately turn the browsing experience overall miserable. Those that don't use ad blockers, I wonder if they are an example of Plato's Cave allegory.

uBlock Origin along with SponsorBlock on all browsers, or a NewPipe fork with SponsorBlock buipt-in. That is what I do. Alternatively, use Invidious, but YT is currently trying to actively block them. Mileage may vary.

I watch it with no real blocking and I don’t get all that much ads. Whats annoying is they have infomercial type ads that if you don’t hit skip will go on forever. I often put stuff on as background so im walking around and doing things and its like. ugh. gotta hit skip.

Nexttube on my hacked Nvidia Shield Pro and Peertube on my phone i forget about it until people on here complain about it :)

@txt_file@chaos.social @ublockorigin For the rare occasions when I watch Youtube on Youtube, I use a combination of uBlockOrigin and PiHole with additional, more restrictive block lists. But most often I just download the channels that I like using Pinchflat and watch them in my self hosted Jellyfin.
