"Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent" Recommended to read some of the details in this report... It's completely bonkers and immoral, whether because of privacy or climate. There is zero respect for the user nor planet left. https://www.thatprivacyguy.com/blog/chrome-silent-nano-install/

@benjaoming@social.data.coop So, while I have Chrome installed, I'm going to guess I haven't launched Chrome since they started this fuckery?

@benjaoming at least you will know that this is the absolute best one. I think a lot of people will actually be happy about this. I am fairly certain that this has not taken place. It can be verified directly in the file system. How can this be verified? I'm pretty sure it's false.

  • @benjaoming Thank you. Uninstalled Chrome, which I rarely use anyway.

@benjaoming Chrome has been silently installing features I don't want for a long time, so this isn't news. If you value control, Waterfox/LibreWolf/Vivaldi is there for you.

@benjaoming ta, just removed Chrome, which I don't use anyway, from my laptop. I hope it doesn't download to servers, we use Chrome to generate PDF files server side, I'll have to keep an eye out - 4G would be a large portion of many of our disks.

@benjaoming I remember the uproar when Apple put a U2 album on everyone’s iPod without consent. This Chrome thing.. I mean I just don’t even have the words anymore. I remember when I used to love technology.
