Patreon has added an algorithmic feed for everyone. “Creators and their fans deserve a better internet - and we’re building one.” Says their announcement. So your plan to personally build a better internet is to adopt all of the trappings of the very social media sites which helped create the problem? For now, there’s a second feed which only shows the creators you follow. For now. A reminder that the deal can always change.

I personally do not focus much of my attention on brand-building, and in fact have been on a health hiatus for a while now. So for this next part, understand I’m not talking about me. But isn’t this worse for most creators, actually? Now you’ve created a competitive marketplace. All the crabs have got to crawl over each other now, in the hopes of keeping the attention of their own patrons. This is… why most of them left, say, Facebook? I definitely understand why it’s good for *Patreon*.

@Haste I mean, I didn't sign up to the patreons of people I like so I could have the website decide NOT to show me the things I signed up for. A real timeline doesn't do that, although I've noticed patreon has been messing with it because I'll get emails for things that don't show up on the feed. I guess this is saying out loud what they've already been doing behind the scenes.

@Haste Patreon bean counters: We're losing a few people to Ko-Fi. What should we do? Patreon engineers: What if we started showing people stuff they haven't signed up for instead of stuff they had? Patreon management: Brilliant! Implement it immediately!
