@becha Plot twist... Those are all capitalist affirmations. At least potentially. Because if enough of us wholeheartedly valued them, choosing to forgo the other alternatives offered to us, then the market would more determinedly make those sentiments a reality for us. https://mindly.social/@setsly/113555011217992901

@becha This fits with my maxim: "If you're playing by somebody else's rules, you've already lost" (ie: define your own success criteria)

@becha This reminds me very mutch of the voluntary simplicity movement I latched onto in the 90s and also the concepts of the gift/reciprocity economy found in nature.

@becha "i am worth so much more than what i produce for the consumption of others." I've been reviewing this one and I think maybe I've decided that no, actually I'm not. That's actually the very best use for me and exactly what I want. I'm getting mad because I feel like it's taken for granted, but that too...I want that and nothing really could make me feel better than to know my life served others so well they didn't even notice till I was gone...and at that point what do I care? Anyhoo..

@becha thank you for this. i am 53 and have only realized in the last few months that i don't have to buy into the capitalist model of self-worth based on career ambition. i might print this post and put it on my mirror 🖤

@becha I love this, thank you. Sorry about the bootlickers in your comments doing apologia for capitalism.

@becha Couldn't a billionaire capitalist have written these statements? I can well imagine Trump's son or Dassault interpreting them in their own way.

@becha That's retirement though successful life gets more like wake up in the morning alive as I get older

@becha Exactly! That's the point i've been trying to make... Existence on earth got nothing to do with being bereaved of Joy... Fact is, that there is NO MEANING - you can do ANYTHING THAT YOU LIKE.. Create your own - as Nietzsche pointed out, in regard of his view on EGOISM: Overcoming yourself, not follow the Christian way of self-sacrificing your own will, to assimilate to the horde.. You should make your own way, AWAY from that horde..

@becha All this is called epicurianism, and every affirmation is centered on yourself. Politics involve others, so this may need some addendum to fit the title ?

@becha "you have been lied to about self-esteem" by Newel is a youtube video that sums up how i could have not wasted a decade of my life and you should watch it before making another one of these

@becha it's okay for me to want things, and I don't need to prove to anyone that I'm deserving breaks, rest, and leisure are normal and necessary, and no one has a right to make me feel guilty for taking them
