@minmi in honey bees workers will butt other workers to get them to stop gathering what they are gathering and rethink. When finding new nest sites scout bees measure potential homes and come back to tell others until the best site is found. It would be chaos if they all just did their own thing. There can be rebellions in very big colonies, farflung corners with rogue workers laying drone eggs instead of working for the common good of the hive
