@sellathechemist That's up to $1.16 a litre. Sure percentage wise they may see biggest increase but they are starting from a fairly low level.

@sellathechemist I used to work at a non self service petrol station occasionally in the early 80s and the pumps were so old that the pump price was calibrated to half the actual price for this very reason. Sometimes we’d forget and the customer would get more than they’d asked for

@sellathechemist That feels like 'free petrol'. In the Netherlands you pay $11.62 for a US gallon. ☹️ (Thanks for the correction @Tubemeister ! )

@sellathechemist Fix on a old analogue pump on Frazer Island ,that only could handle 99.9 cents /litre. To handle above $1.00/l They just added a sticker so it now it read 2 X 70.0c for $1.40 /l In the shop, they just doubled the final price.

@sellathechemist It's actually working as designed. The US has big oil reserves and the US oil companies benefit from the high oil prices. The average US American is of no interest for Trump or the oil industry. They only see dollar signs and if they can f*** over the average American - why not? Trump and Co feel as safe as any dictator now. If an election does not go their way, they, including the Supreme Court, will sort it out. I wish I am wrong .. but I don't have too much hope.

@sellathechemist Those “voted because of the economy” guys got exactly what they voted for: fascism and a recession.

@sellathechemist just switch the volume units to litres
-
@peterbrown@mastodon.scot 2026-05-02 13:32
@sellathechemist they’ll have to change it to price per litre, like we did in the UK.

@sellathechemist That's a really stupid remark. They can to go $9.999. Is that not close enough? How stupid does someone need to be to say this to someone else who might repeat it with their name attached to it?

@sellathechemist Cry me a river. Here in good old Blighty it was £1.99/litre (premium diesel) or $7.53/US gallon. And rising.

@sellathechemist Can't they just paint over the current decimal place and paint another one in to the right?
-
@luciedigitalni@aus.social 2026-05-03 01:59
@sellathechemist they'll just have to switch to litres then!
