@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Absolutely no offense meant, but maybe relying on Amazon (who are sort of antithetical to everything Signal stands for) for anything isn't the greatest of ideas?

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Thanks for the info. That was my guess when I couldnβt send a message to myself π Take care all you guys!

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world glad I saw this immediately after noticing that a message wouldn't send... saved me lots of time figuring out what was going on!

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world That's fine, we understand! We're waiting patiently!

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world probably a good idea to not depend on public cloud providers. Especially in the current political climate but also for simple technical reasons.

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Yeah, that strategy of only having servers in the US really paying off isn't it..

@technodev@mastodon.social 2025-10-20 08:22
@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Why is the infra relied on AWS? Having different providers and different geographical locations will make it redundant and resilient to these issues.

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Thanks for letting us know, but I do wonder whether that kind of information should be posted to @signalapp@mastodon.world and not on its president's personal account.

Allow for privately hosted backup servers like @44393ff8ca21edda8e7e510a2d8aef91e6b71ff38969a69b356215bfb42bac19@mostr.pub does

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world thanks for posting. Related: why is this not showing on: https://status.signal.org i do not want to find this first thing on Social Media, also why is not @signalapp@mastodon.world posting this as well?

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world [Update: the status page is now saying Β»β Signal is experiencing technical difficulties. We are working hard to restore service as quickly as possible.Β«] Thank you for the notification. I'd be interested in why https://status.signal.org is still silent on this, because this is where I first checked this morning. While I appreciate it you're taking responsibility, it shouldn't be the job of the president to announce issues like this.

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Maybe Signal is too dependent on Amazon. Why put all your eggs in one basket? You might wanna use some European Web Services in case something like this happens.

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world In Europe I recommend "Hetzner".

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Thanks for your efforts! Keep up the great work π π Nonetheless announcing this shouldn't be your job IMHO... it should be handled via https://status.signal.org/ and @signalapp@mastodon.world . π€

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world thanks for the update! It is unfortunate that https://status.signal.org/ still shows no problems here...

@Mer__edith@mastodon.world "Some" people is quite the understatement ... I hope your admins can switch us all over to another AWS region so we can use Signal again. (Yes, I am one of the "some" people affected and yes, it is causing real problems for me)
-
@ebauche@mastodon.social 2025-10-20 09:13
@Mer__edith@mastodon.world I was expecting https://status.signal.org/ to show some sort of indication of there being an issue but it just says everything is working. It was my first port of call when I saw messages weren't sending for me. Downdetector seems to provide a more realistic picture.

@ihor@social.noleron.com 2025-10-20 09:15
@Mer__edith@mastodon.world Maybe after this outage, it would be better to create a mirror for Signal servers? So that if AWS has another issue, Signal could keep working β the messenger is convenient and great, but relying on a single provider is a bad ideaβ¦
