In Edmonton we lived above (WAY above) a beloved downtown pub. In 2018 the NDP government passed a law that allowed bars to open for the duration of the men’s hockey gold medal game (at like 4am), so we got up early for it and headed down. We all wore our pyjamas! I will be thinking of that Sunday.

Me: When Americans misspell ‘Ottawa’, I experience it as a microaggression. Partner: How are they misspelling ’Ottawa’? Me: With two O’s. Partner, looking at me like I’ve grown another head: ‘OOTTAWA’?

When people first started talking regularly about Rachel Reid (local author of the Heated Rivalry book), I would hear “Rachel Reeves” (UK politician) before mentally backtracking and correcting. Somewhere along the line, though, my expectations switched. It’s funny either way, though, so I’m good!

Someone in one of the gardening social media communities I lurk on is complaining about Japanese beetles. I thanked them for reminding me that there are worse things than gross piles of discoloured snow in early March. 😳 #GrowYourOwn #GardeningMastodon
