How is this thing done? I tried Markdown code format here on Mastodon, using code HTML tags, neither work.
Is my suspicion using own instance with allowed code use correct? ActivityPub supports this, but Mastodon don't?
PS: This shows up as <code> tags on Mastodon.

@dusoft Yes. Platforms like GotoSocial support this. Mastodon only renders, doesn’t support writing markdown itself.

@dusoft I believe so yes. Mathsodon has LaTeX rendering for example (https://mathstodon.xyz/about) which isn't supported by Mastodon.

@dusoft Vanilla mastodon does not support Markdown and strips HTML tags. There are some mastodon instances that run glitch-soc, which is a fork that adds a bunch of features including markdown.

@dusoft glitch-soc has support for writing markdown and is otherwise extremely close to mastodon, if you are interested. Plenty of 'Mastodon' instances actually run glitch-soc.
