Using @littlesnitch@mastodon.obdev.at I found out that so many apps send telemetry to services like Sentry. They also still connect to HTTP on port 80. Yikes.

It’s funny how us IT people used to jump on any new technology back in the day, and now all we want is to live in a cabin in the woods without internet.

Something has been bothering me lately. Mastodon is praised for genuine human interaction, mutual respect, and the lack of engagement-driven algorithms. Yet trending posts often still feel confrontational. People may ask for justified respect while resorting to generalizations, hostility, or contempt. Anger at mistreatment is understandable, but respect cannot apply only to people we agree with. A healthier network also depends on how we choose to speak to one another. #Mastodon

My wife insists I find an offline hobby because I tend to spend too much time in front of digital screens. As a result, I've been thinking about picking up #photography again. Then again, I remember the days when I spent entire evenings in Aperture.app.

Worried about Anthropic's new "Mythos" model? You've probably seen it go by these past weeks: it supposedly found more than 10,000 vulnerabilities on its own, in software that runs just about everywhere. So I dug in, a deep dive heading into the weekend. Mythos (and really the whole AI trend) rewards systems that are well maintained and punishes those that aren't. The full deep dive is here: https://jorijn.com/en/blog/claude-mythos-ai-vulnerability-...

Normally my Z2 = 6:30/km @ 145bpm Now with the heat and seasonal allergies I ran 6:30/km at average 166bpm. I like the sun and all, but for #running I prefer the rain and the cold.

Just taught a personal AI assistant to monitor our cats' food intake and raise an alert if it's becoming problematically low. What a time to be alive.

In my search for a better web, I stumbled across https://orionbrowser.com/ and https://kagi.com/. Have I been living under a rock, or are these guys genuinely unknown? Their offering seems great. #Privacy #Kagi

Moved #tootcommunity's platform repository to a self-hosted #Forgejo installation. Planning to migrate more soon. Setting up @forgejo has been such a breeze. Enjoyed it very much. https://code.jorijn.com/toot.community For the Dutch: Follow @doeidag and visit https://doeidag.nl

To the folks running #forgejo: How are you running your runners safely? I don’t want to run them on docker on a shared system in case some npm script breaks out, but spinning up an entire VM seems like a lot of work. Share your experiences please 🙏 cc @forgejo@floss.social

Had to call MediaMarkt to request an invoice. The call was accepted by a voice AI agent. Sigh.

To my followers: I'm curious, so please vote to reflect your opinion. I'm currently using a separate account (@website) to post new blog articles to Mastodon. I'm considering posting from this account instead, simpler and better reach.
