@Popehat I went to BU and this sounds absolutely like President Brown. Dude is consistently a douche and more concerned with increasing the margins on his business than the process or value of education, and a history of stifling speech that he disagrees with. Really wish I had gone to a better school, as I had the opportunity.

@Popehat Your take here has been my assumption about EVERY invocation of Cancel Culture. I still struggle to read with understanding when anyone uses it in the "prevent someone from actually speaking" sense.

@Popehat He is whining that the speech at graduation given by the head of Warner Brothers/Discovery was interrupted & disrupted by students demanding he treat writers with respect, pay them and negotiate with their union I actually was there & I couldn't be more proud of the students. It was exciting and touching to see kids in their early 20's standing up for something. BTW: Zaslav's speech was a self-serving bad speech. Seriously, not good. All the students I talked to agreed. Me. Me. Me.

@Popehat At my alma mater, Washington College, incoming freshmen were (still are?) given a copy of George Washington's Rules of Civility. It's worth a read, and it's a useful distinction to make between speech and civility. Speech is a right, civility is something to practice so that you, personally, do not look like an ass. Then again, Washington also tried to "cancel" political parties in his Farewell Address. His influence did not quite match his legend.
