@Popehat At my alma mater, Washington College, incoming freshmen were (still are?) given a copy of George Washington's Rules of Civility. It's worth a read, and it's a useful distinction to make between speech and civility. Speech is a right, civility is something to practice so that you, personally, do not look like an ass. Then again, Washington also tried to "cancel" political parties in his Farewell Address. His influence did not quite match his legend.
