@SRLevine @siderea I'm not sure about that mailing time, as I understand it back when mail was the primary method of exchanging information, it was a lot more regular, reliable and fast.
The other thing, I wonder, with the much lower volume of papers in the '60s if the editor would get to it a lot faster.

@Canageek @siderea In regards to mail: I'm sure the service itself was faster, but any editor of a journal would be giving it to his (and yeah, almost all men) secretary, who gives it to the mail person, who probably then takes it to a central location on campus, before it even enters the postal system. So you put it in the out box and at best it enters the postal system the next day.
