Anyway, ask around. Google people. Read their resumes. Check their Wikipedia pages. Most folks who are That Guy (gender non-specific) are quiet about it because they are shipping or teaching classes.

I know every big system I have helped with (one which was used in real time at basicallybevery point of sale in grocery stores and pharmacies across the country - so yes large scale high availability complex system) was also not the work of any one person to design, improve or maintain. And where a part was one person’s work we actively worked to remove that

But where he really got lucky though, was to be just the right type of personality to take advantage of our new kind of media economy, where his kind are at an advantage. He’s quick, shameless, a wisecrack & goofy, likes to perform and a very good liar. Perfect for capturing attention in a world where there’s way too much already

So many Musk fanboys and -girls (but, let's be honest, mostly boys) in this industry. I think the tech culture actually has a huge problem with celebrating rich dudes and confuse the wealth with technical prowess.

When he talked about electric cars, not knowing anything, I thought 'this guy knows his stuff!' When he talked about programming and twitter, I thought 'this guy's an idiot!', and I suddenly saw his other comments in the same light"

@shanselman@hachyderm.io His academic achievements are also questionable — he may not have received degrees he may have lied about earning. This is one of the reasons he tried to exit the purchase agreement for Twitter once Twitter filed suit against him in Delaware where Twitter has been incorporated. It may also be why he wanted to move incorporation from Delaware, so that shareholders would have more difficulty suing him for misrepresentations. (Delaware's chancery court doesn't fuck around.)
