An article about Bluesky struggling to make money. If only there was a decentralized social media platform whose users have been predicting this for years, but Fast Company is apparently unaware of our existence. Maybe that is a good thing. https://www.fastcompany.com/91528304/bluesky-set-out-to-fix-social-media-now-its-running-into-familiar-problems

@chrisod@social.lol @mastodonmigration@mastodon.online happy to continue the "if it's not about profit, it doesn't exist" line of out-of-touch journalism. They'll only see the revolution in their rear view mirror

@chrisod@social.lol "Bluesky started to feel like a kind of promiseland" - with writers who've never heard the concept of "promised land", maybe not so surprising they're unaware of the fediverse!

@chrisod@social.lol > While exact metrics or studies showing that most accounts on Bluesky are verified and run by real people are hard to come by, nearly everyone I spoke with pointed to this as the platform’s most redeeming quality, especially compared with X, Mastodon, or Threads. Why mention Mastodon (only the second mention in the whole article) in that context? Someone hasn't actually researched the topic beyond the vibe...

@chrisod@social.lol Mastodon is also not solving the Costs problem. It's relying on subsidies and sponsorships from companies or private donations, and that isn't a viable business model either.
