Teenagers should be unionized. Collectively bargain with your parents. Collectively bargain with your schools. Collectively bargain with the government. #Unions EDIT: I mean this 100% sincerely. I went to a hippie school which did treat students with respect, and it saved my life. I saw what my friends at "normal" schools were going through, and I thought it was horrifying. Now that I've worked in a normal school, I still think it's horrifying! The government views teenagers as property. Strike for better treatment and more rights! Collective bargaining with parents is trickier, because most parents only have 1-3 kids, and many don't care about any kids other than their own.

@2something Don't stop at teens! Talk with the Toddlers! Let siblings strike in solidarity. They have to live with our choices much longer than we do.

@2something not sure if you're serious or not but I think this is a really interesting idea. As a unionist with two adolescent kids, I sometimes hear myself sounding like the boss when I'm tired and they're needing to be heard. It's a sobering experience. I'm mostly trying to share power with them in every way I can. Sometimes it just feels in the moment like it takes less nrg to just sink into authoritarian parenting, but in the long term I think it's probably much more energy efficient to be in right relation with our kids because I think it takes an awful lot of energy to deal with your kids fucking hating you.

@2something This might sound like a joke, but, frankly, the flippant and dismissive way many teenagers are treated (even by adults who claim to have their best interests at heart) grimly presages the way many adults are mistreated in the workplace. I wish collective bargaining had been an option for me, growing up; my own folks weren't even remotely willing to come to the bargaining table until after I had already moved far away from them, by which point they no longer had anything to offer me. They had no incentive to take me seriously so long as I was at their mercy. I deserved better; everyone does.

@2something in germany it would already help if parents would stick to the rights that the government is actually giving to teens and children...
