It says something about why I&#39;m still on Facebook, that my feed there is post after post after post mourning Hampshire&#39;s closing and I have seen not a single post on my feed here. I&#39;ll make one myself eventually. It is hard to put into words how deeply and dramatically Hampshire changed my life for the better, but I&#39;ll manage it at some point.

I boosted a bunch of posts about Hampshire on bluesky but only one of them was bridged to the fediverse. I didn't realize that my Hampshire community and my fediverse community were such non-overlapping circles.

@shauna I only recently moved to Amherst but the community here is really sad about the situation. Hampshire seemed like a really cool place.

@shauna I'm one of the people who went there but isn't ready (may never be ready) to talk about it. Hampshire was formative for me in so many ways. I'm sorry other people won't be able to have that. I moved to Seattle then VT because of Hampshire, became a librarian because of Hampshire, met many friends I still have. But also my post-graduation experience was less great (non-stop aggressive appeals for money & little else) and I feel okay letting Hampshire rest. I am sorry for everyone's loss.

I didn't attend Hampshire, yet I've spent a bunch of time there. As a local, for summer camps hosted there. Later, visiting friends for Excalibur club. It just felt like a permanent fixture...

@shauna Oh my goodness. I hadn't heard about this and am so sorry to be hearing about it now. I didn't go to school there. I visited it (one of the few campus visits I did) and knew immediately that it would be A Right Place for me... but, after some agonizing, decided, for better or worse or probably both, to go to Oberlin because of the music conservatory there. I don't regret that, but I never forgot the impression Hampshire made on me, and I always wanted to talk to alums about how it had been for them. I'm really sad to hear it's not going to be there anymore :-( . That is a poorer world, by any set of values I'd care to consort with.
