@sustainrelease@mastodon.social I bought a big stack of smaller and bigger velcro straps to organize my cables. I feel paper rolls might not last very long with bigger cables

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social I keep the original cable clips in the bag (top) and wrap and twist one or two around the over under folded cable before putting the neat cable package away in one of the boxes for storage. But I also have velcro straps like @skaverat mentions for longer xlr cables.

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social Oooooohhhh, I must try this. That looks like a fairly brilliant life hack type idea.

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social I’ve been doing that for a while. I’ve found that the cardboard can get a bit manky after a while so you may need to switch them out depending on where you store stuff.

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social my spouse has done that at least once one on tidying spree in the past, I reckon that if we could trace the transmission of the idea back the it would have come from the same source at some point!

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social @folfdk@helvede.net Nice! Also, don’t roll the cables, repeatedly fold them in half until the size is handy. Prevents coiling.

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social I started doing that years ago with small USB cables that could basically be totally or mostly contained inside the toilet paper roll, and stored the rolls vertically in a box. But I never thought it could also be convenient to use this method with larger cables. So thanks for sharing this tip!

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social ...paper towel tubes bound together and standing in corner of pantry is great for cords to appliances used in the kitchen and know where they are if tube is labeled...

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social They also make great chew toys for #puppies (the toilet paper rolls, not the cables).

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social Heh, I use velcro cable ties.

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social years of doing that (kitchen rolls for longer cables)

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social It's a fantastic idea, and if you don't have enough you can cut the roll in half to make 2 of them. (That is, to make 2 rings. Going lengthwise would just make a less useful piece of flat cardboard)

@sustainrelease@mastodon.social @kevinctofel@hachyderm.io That is a good idea. I use wire twist ties from the grocery store which also works great 🙂
