In the midst of a Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Mariesii Lilacina’ grows a self-sown Achillea, maybe Yarrow, hard to know and very difficult to spot. Their flowers are absolutely identical in colour. Even their flower heads are similar in shape. Is this a case of perfect colour harmony or plant intelligence using colour as camouflage? #hydrangea #achillea #yarrow #ColourHarmony #PlantIntelligence #ArtistsGarden #ImperfectGarden #garden #gardener #gardening #GardenPhotography #Artist #wolfkettler #Ph...

A border lining our patio. Echinacea purpurea, Gaura, Verbena hastata, Verbena bonariensis, ornamental grasses and wildflowers, such as poppies, mullein and several other self-sown individuals, before the draught bleached lawn give this border a meadow or prairie-like appearance. #ArtistsGarden #ImperfectGarden #garden #gardener #gardening #GardenPhotography #Artist #wolfkettler #Photography #GardenWiltshire #WiltshireGarden #Wiltshire #sustainable #summer #bloomscrolling #biodiversity #natural...

I planted this border in the garden predominantly with ornamental grasses, interplanted with tall perennials - and, of course, wildflowers, a.k.a. weeds. Couldn’t begin to list all the individuals, who live in there. I have been busy in the garden and I have revamped my website. Also decided that I would *try* to keep the ‘journal’, a.k.a. blog, a little more up-to-date. Since I am clearly utterly incapable of sustaining a regular presence on social media, I would like to share the first new blog post with you: https://www.wolfkettler.com/blog/wild-unruly-and-beautiful #ArtistsGarden #ImperfectGarden #garden #gardening #GardenPhotography #Artist #wolfkettler #Photography #GardenWiltshire #WiltshireGarden #...

I love the garden at any time of the day. Without a doubt, though, the light is best early mornings and, as in this photograph, late afternoons. As everywhere in the garden, the borders contain deliberately placed plants but welcome with open arms the many self-sown wildflowers. #ArtistsGarden #ImperfectGarden #garden #gardener #gardening #GardenPhotography #Artist #wolfkettler #Photography #GardenWiltshire #WiltshireGarden #Wiltshire #sustainable #summer #bloomscrolling #biodiversity #natural...

Previously, a small part of the garden by the side of the house was only grass, a tree, a few shrubs and hedging to the side and back - and it was a bit unloved. Since the transformation, the distinction between inside and outdoors has been blurred. Sitting in the living room you can now not be quite certain where you are. The garden seems to be intent on coming into the house. I have written this as a blog post: https://www.wolfkettler.com/blog/this-morning-in-the-garden #ArtistsGarden #Imperf...

Interesting paper by BCG (Boston Consulting Group). They estimate that whole grain foods - provide six to seven times greater nutrition than the same amount of their refined versions - have 20% to 25% less impact on greenhouse gas emissions and land, water, fertiliser, and pesticide use per volume unit - have 85% to 90% less environmental impact per nutritional unit https://www.bcg.com/publications/2024/whole-truth-about-whole-grains

We also have rabbits again. So far, relatively well behaved, sticking to the grass for culinary needs. Apart, that is, from one of the daylilies, which looks rather sorry for itself. And the primrose, which one of them ‘deadheaded’ whilst I was watching. #rabbits #wildlife #GardenWildlife #WildlifePhotography #ArtistsGarden #ImperfectGarden #garden #GardenPhotography #Artist #wolfkettler #Photography #GardenWiltshire #WiltshireGarden #Wiltshire #natural #NaturalGarden #WildlifeFriendly

First sighting of a pair of ducks this year. I had seen the male and the female earlier but today is the first time that I saw them together. I approached carefully to say 'hello' and supply a little more breakfast, expecting them to be shy initially. They weren't - both were supremely relaxed with me and confident. They are also used to me pointing the camera at them. We know each other well from previous years. #ducks #mallard #MallardDucks #wildlife #GardenWildlife #WildlifePhoto...

Catkins on a Salix gracilistyla Mount Aso. The catkins are produced in spring before the leaves. I moved this shrub a couple of years ago from an area, where it was not doing well. It is meant to grow up to three metres tall but is still tiny, probably on account of its hard start in life. ‣ Upright. @oldrawgabbit@mastodon.world What bothers me is this: Whenever I see something about someone being arrested by police, they always handcuff their suspect, even if they do not appear to present a threat. Neither Mandelson nor Andrew were handcuffed.
