@posiputt there are somewhat simple xmpp clients (especially when people already have an account/someone made one for them). Deltachat goes through the email protocols but that doesn't make it meaningfully easier conceptually than other messengers I believe.
If it's for a group of people who know each other/have shared context etc. sometimes setting up something like slack or one of the open source equivalents could be simpler but that requires someone to run stuff of course.

@tante I'm thinking more along the linses of connecting to people like I would via signal. self-hosting is probably beyond me, but I have just reactivated my account on conversations.im ... feels nostalgic in a way :)

@tante @posiputt in my experience XMPP is not very mobile-friendly (requires persistent connections). It's been a while since I last looked at things tho (2019-ish)
