@tante yes. but without losing access to all the people who still use their smartphones. I wish for choice in that matter. atm it seems rather impractical to just not use a smartphone at all, even though I mainly just use it for communication.

@posiputt there are somewhat simple xmpp clients (especially when people already have an account/someone made one for them). Deltachat goes through the email protocols but that doesn't make it meaningfully easier conceptually than other messengers I believe. If it's for a group of people who know each other/have shared context etc. sometimes setting up something like slack or one of the open source equivalents could be simpler but that requires someone to run stuff of course.
