So today's lucky winner on my ongoing #poorUX reporting is #Tesco Bank who scored three times, which is a new record. They: 1. don't accept spaces in the middle of phone numbers. 2. don't trim() - that email address has a leading space. 3. think all pet's names are four characters or more. I despair. How hard can this be? Who's doing the UX testing? (No one)

@tallpaul@mastodon.scot … and to make everything fully consistent, you cannot enter a leading space in front of your pet’s three-letter name, right?

  • @tallpaul@mastodon.scot it's always surprising to me that, here in France where writing phone numbers as two digit groups with a space betweem each is seldom, if ever allowed in web site form phone number fields.

  • @tallpaul@mastodon.scot this annoys the shit out of me, back on 2013 I ranted about it and nothing has really changed https://offbeatmammal.com/2013/03/18/lazy-developers-make-for-bad-user-experiences.html

@tallpaul@mastodon.scot I treat challenge questions as additional password fields. Putting in actual personal information that can be looked up feels unwise. I do find it sadly amusing that my brokerage's message system will not accept my brokerage's name in a message, along with many other normal ASCII characters.

@tallpaul@mastodon.scot I had to put a time into a field the other day. It would only take numbers, not the colon, and when I put “300” to indicate 3:00, it formatted it 30:0. I had to put 0300 to get it to accept 3:00.
