  4+ hour out and back mountain bike ride in the welsh brecons. drubbing. Also got to experience the "coming to a halt in a mud crossing and having to out your foot down so it gets sinks into the mud.   Just a note for AI curious: if you are active OSS maintener, as can be observed from github activity logs, and the project has 15k+ stars, you get claude max for free for six months. Given its trained on my code *and* on pirate PDFs of my book, I think that's a good first step to make up

  Saw the University of Bristol's new templemeads campus on Thursday, maybe it'll be ready by September, at least externally. There's a harbour-level bypass of the station going under the cheesegrater 'don't cycle when wet or icy' walk+bike bridge. If this new path works in winter and is illuminated well, it could be a good general feature.   I have just spent a couple of hours with Claude Code on a side project in kotlin. I can't code in kotlin. And it is profound. Putting aside all morality about AI (the power, as its use of everyone's work,...): Software Development has changed i'm trying to think of other moments doing software dev when things changed *and it was tangible* Some big changes (laptops, WiFi) had changes but I didn't realise at the time... #ai

  Modern unix workstation construction: a raspberry pi with 1 TB of NVMe. This is actually the system which did (via docker) the arm64 build of Hadoop-3.4.3 and where the central maven artifacts came from. I decided if I was going to do builds on I should upgrade storage from a microSSD to something faster and reliable.
