Friggin' Europe, back at it again with the micromobility. Bicycle lockers are a game changer. First time using one. Love not having to take off my lights, bags, pump, and other widgets. #BikeTooter

@kirk I guess if you knew one of those was available at your destination you could carry a much smaller lock, like a diamond secure padlock

@kirk Am I missing something? Couldn't a person lift that lock, turn the loop 90° to the right, and open the door halfway?

@kirk They fell out of favour in my town (E Anglia uk) because homeless ppl would sleep in them. That tells you something.

@kirk I’m retired now but I used a similar bike locker in Denver Colorado at a light rail station for many years. It worked quite well. As far as homeless people sleeping in the lockers it happened occasionally but didn’t seem to be a deal breaker. The transit agency required users to sign an agreement and use locks provided by the agency, so the only time a locker was unsecured was in between leases.

@kirk They can be very helpful, but one problem with these (and other cycle infrastructure being designed, sited, and built now) is that they are only built with abled riders of upright cycles in mind, which is ableist. I would not be able to fit my ride in here. Not trying to be a killjoy, but pointing out something abled folks/riders of upright non-cargo cycles tend not to notice. Which is why things like this keep getting designed this way and winning bids. #BikeTooter #CycleParkingAudit

@kirk Then installed some of these in my last city... But about a mile away from one of the main work areas. Above the storage was some changing areas and showers. The locks on the storage lockers with flimsy and bike theft was rife as the security was so bad and the area completely open to anyone walking past... and once people parked their bikes or cars and went of to work... almost deserted until around 5pm. Good idea... stupid planning.
