@Maker_of_Things @Susan60 on the other hand we have my mother in law who is housebound and refuses to acknowledge she needs more care than can be provided in her home and would do anything to live with us in a home that is unable to be adapted to her needs. My partner is the full-time carer of our autistic children (the youngest has more care needs than me and the big 'un) so is unable to take on more even if she wanted to.

@Maker_of_Things @Susan60 although we would have taken in one of my folks if they had needed it. So they did absolutely the right thing in telling us not to take that step. They have been there for everyone in the family all my life and currently visit my auntie daily to help with her needs in their 70s. We'd have probably done the same for her Dad (who passed away almost 15 years ago now) who did everything he could for the extended family as well. Sounds harsh I know :(

  • @naturepunk We also have my Mum in law, who lives 100 miles away. We take turns with my SiL (100 miles in the other direction) to support her when she needs us. It's hard due to the distance, but we manage. It is hardest when Mil's appointments clash timewise with my Mum's, and we need to be at both. Also, with me being Autistic (and I suspect my Mum is too), I couldn't manage anywhere near as well without my wife's support, that really makes a difference. @Susan60
